Backlink Advertising Revisited!

Several months back, I wrote an article reviewing backlink advertising networks. I took a look at two of the more popular networks, AdCaliber and DigitalPoint Coop. Now that I have had time to take a look at the long term results, here are my findings.

I'll start with DigitalPoint. DigitalPoint's Coop Network worked wonders for getting sites and pages indexed at first. I was seeing many of my pages quickly showing up in the Google index. Traffic did increase somewhat, but it left a lot to be desired. My PageRank, unfortunately, never increased during the time I was running Coop ads. After about two or three months of running Coop, I started to see my number of pages fall from the index. Several of the sites I used Coop on were outright banned by Google (but not by Yahoo or MSN). I simply cannot recommend Coop unless you are looking only at the short term. Even in the short term, Coop's effectiveness has been waning in recent months, and I saw very little profitability using this network.

Now, onto the good news. Backlink advertising does seem to work, if and only if done properly. I think AdCaliber is a site that does this. The most obvious advantage of AdCaliber that any experienced SEO professional would recognize is that it does not rotate links. I suspected this would be a great SEO strategy. Now, several months later, I can say AdCaliber has been more effective than any SEO strategy I have ever tried. Simply by bidding the right number of credits and getting in the game early, I was able to obtain high PR links on various sites. These links are still up to this day! I used AdCaliber on 3 domains. My PageRank increased by at least 2 points on each domain, and on one of them it went from a PR1 all the way to PR6 in just five months. I am very impressed with AdCaliber and plan to continue using the network.

All and all, backlink advertising is effective. There seems to be little Google can do to penalize sites that use networks such as AdCaliber as they look just like regular links. Backlink advertising has been an incredible time-saver and has been extremely profitable, pushing my web publishing earnings into the six-figure monthly category.
